One of my hobbies...

Ever since last summer, one of my "hobbies" has been couponing. If you're not familiar with this new little epidemic, it's pretty amazing. Basically, I save bookoo bucks by shopping with coupons, but I think the process has changed some from when our parents did it. Most people hear coupons and say "I don't think so." But, I took on the challenge, and it has been pretty amazing!

Since my mom has recently become the Enrichment counselor in her R.S., she is now in charge (partially) of Enrichment for her ward. My mom has always kind of made fun of us girls for the couponing stuff (Diana does it too) and has always been a skeptic. But now that she has to come up with clever ideas for R.S., she has been considering the coupon class idea.

Today I had to do some shopping with coupons, and ended up with some pretty great deals. The best was a trip to Albertsons, in which I got 2 packages Double Stuff Golden Oreos, 5 cans Bumble Bee tuna, and a 4-pack of Charmin t.p. My total after tax came to $1.06. Mom got a kick out of this and asked me to document it, so here it is.

My total spent today was $36 (and some change). What you see in this pic is what I came home with, but here's a list, in case you can't see it all:

8-pack Sparkle paper towels
4-pack Charmin t.p.

3 boxes Frosted Flakes
3 boxes Frosted Mini Wheats

1 box Apple Jacks
1 box Fruit Loops

10 cans Bumble Bee tuna

4 cans Del Monte diced tomatoes
4 cans Del Monte fancy sliced green beans

1 box Ronzoni Smart Taste penne
3 boxes Ronzoni Smart Taste spaghetti

1 4-pack Dannon Activia yogurt

2 pkg Double Stuf Golden Oreos

Up
Star Trek

It's always fun to calculate total savings, and even percentage savings, after a day like this. For the one transaction that totaled $1.06, It was an $18.04 savings and about 97% off. Who knows, maybe we'll convert my mom after all. :-)

On another note, I was calculating the average savings of all of this, and found that it was only about 50%, which is not that great. But then I took out the two movies, which I bought on sale for $9 each with no coupons. Considering this, I spent about $18 for everything else...that's much better! ;-)

PS: If anyone is actually interested in learning about this madness, you are welcome to ask me. But there is a guru website I love that has all the information you need. Just go to The Krazy Coupon Lady.
