Another Great Trip

Last weekend we took off Friday morning and headed to Utah. The original purpose of this trip was to take our kids to Disney on Ice in SLC Friday night. We decided that since we won't be taking any extended vacations this summer like we did last, we'd make this a kid-friendly weekend vacation. So on our way down we decided to stop at the Hill AFB Museum, based on the tip from a friend at church.

I would highly recommend this museum to anyone who travels to Utah! It's right off the Interstate, and it's free; add to that the fact that it's pretty amazing and you have a great little side-trip.

The kids were happy by this point just to get out of the car. The weather was awesome, so it was nice that a large number of planes were on display outside the museum. The kids were fascinated!

It was rare for me to get a photo of Aedan looking at the camera. He was absolutely beside himself with excitement over all the planes. Most of his photos look like this:

Or this:

You can't hardly see them, but down in the bottom of the picture is a teeny-tiny image of Brett holding up the kids. They were trying to give me something to measure against this fantastic plane. Look how huge it is! I think it was a transport plane, and it was simply mind-boggling. It was bigger than the museum itself (in height), which is no mean feat as the museum had hundreds of planes inside too!

A little closer-up:

Since we were literally next door to the AFB, we were treated with numerous fly-overs (or whatever you might call them) while we were outside. It was kinda fun, and more than a little tricky, to catch one of these buggers in the viewfinder and get it focused!

This is Brett's all-time favorite plane: the P51 Mustang. He was in heaven. :-)

Umm, did you know helicopters could have two of these things??

This was a baby plane the kids got a kick out of. Looked like something we'd have as a backyard toy.

And of course, the original...or one of them. A Wright Bros plane...totally cool and mind-boggling to see! You definitely wouldn't catch me up in the air on one of these suckers!
All in all, it was a great stop on our little mini-vacation. Disney on Ice was awesome too, and the kids had an absolute blast. We had more fun watching them than watching the show. But unfortunately, I thought we wouldn't be allowed to have cameras, and didn't want mine confiscated, so I didn't get any pics. Saturday we also took the kids to an aquarium near Jen's house in Sandy, but again, no pics. So a great trip, but you only get to see a small part of it. :-)
